After weeks of searching, he came upon the name of a true Agile seeker. Locals called him “the authority”, “wise one” or “scrum sensei”. The single greatest source of wisdom on the subject of doing agile right. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Approaching his unassuming house, our hero noticed hand-carved signs, dangling from tree branches. Their meanings were cryptic and bizarre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAbandon thought, all ye who enter\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf you have come to accumulate knowledge, you shouldn\u2019t have it.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOnly gather that which fits into the palm of your hand\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThose who travel a long distance to find wisdom should have been collecting it along the way\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Upon reaching the sensei, the breathless and anxious student unleashed his first inquiry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “Wise one\u2026 what is the most important of all the agile principles?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n To which the wise one answered, \u201cDo\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Thinking for a moment, the student contemplated the answer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Half-satisfied, he moved on to the next question. Looking to gain as much knowledge from this opportunity as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHow many people should be on a scrum team?\u201d he asked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n And again, the sage replied, \u201cDo.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Puzzled, the student asked, with a raised eyebrow, \u201cIs that Latin for two, or ten?\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The master patiently folded his hands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The student then asked, \u201cShould the product owner be part of the retrospective?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n The wise one replied, \u201cDo.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Undaunted, the student asked, \u201cHow do I convince a stakeholder to be more available?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n The reply, again, \u201cDo\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Here, the student became frustrated. \u201cWise One, how am I to become wise as you? How can I become a powerful practitioner when you won\u2019t answer my questions? Please, tell me\u2026 what is the best way to agile enlightenment?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n The refrain – \u201cDo\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIs do an acronym for a SAFe process or ceremony?\u201d, queried the student, puzzled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The sage only smiled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Exhausted, the student finally commented, \u201cI can see that there is no Agile wisdom here. I see that it was fruitless to come all this way only to find that you have no scripts for me. You have no formula or easy answers to help me reduce risk. You have shown me no ways to make decisions easier. All you\u2019ve done is force me to work harder to get the answers that cannot wait. I must have them now.
